9th Yokohama Triennale: Visual Concept

Visual Concept
The ocean holds what has travelled across it: a space of continuous movement where ideas, images, and information circulate, transforming as they travel. Descending into the abyss, signals spiral between clarity and noise before re-emerging elsewhere. The spiralling type pulls us into a continuous upward and downward movement, echoing this circulation, distortion, and the duality within a whale fall. As we descend into the depths, something new emerges.
A fossilised Triennale Y logo turns the identity into an archaeological trace: a fragment of the present imagined as a remnant of the future, as old systems collapse and new ecosystems emerge.
Built on a dot matrix variable font, the lettering transforms into organic forms that scale up as they rise. Each dot is a fragment of potential, an ecosystem in formation.
Abyssal blue and deep red form the backdrop, contrasted with light coral red and soft green, symbolising hope, possibility, and new life emerging from the darkness of the ocean depths.
