Overview

Digest Movie

Raqs Media Collective, an India-based artist collective consisting of 3 artists (Jeebesh Bagchi, Monica Narula and Shuddhabrata Sengupta) was appointed as the first non-Japanese artistic director in Yokohama Triennale’s history. Distinct curatorial approaches, such as sharing and discussing Sources, or texts by people from different background and time that referred to “luminosity,” “autodidacticism,” “care,” “friendship,” and “toxicity,” and launching a series of Episōdo, which expanded time and space beyond the exhibition, introduced new ways of presenting the Triennale. The exhibition, which showcased many artists for the first time in Japan, opened with a two weeks delay amid the spread of the new corona virus. In response to the limitations of travel and physical access, online programs and new ways of using digital media were explored throughout the exhibition period.
