Gustav Metzger

Gustav Metzger (Germany/UK)

Born 1926 in Nuremberg. Lives and works in London.

Born to Polish-Jewish parents, at age 12, Metzger went to Britain as a refugee rescued by the Refugee Children Movement. This experience formed his political principle to attack inhuman acts and systems such as the art industry and capitalism. Later on, he proposed Auto-Destructive Art and also became deeply involved in the Fluxus movement. In recent years, he has participated in the Venice Biennale (03), Valencia Biennial (05), Sharjah Biennial (07), Munster Sculpture Project (07), and Biennale Cuvée (07).
