Tonico Lemos Auad

Tonico Lemos Auad (Brazil)

Born in 1968 in Belem, Brazil. Lives and works in London.

Explores the possibilities of new forms of artistic expression in today’s world by carefully reevaluating the more traditional techniques of art that are applied in painting, drawing and sculpture. Auad is known for his three-dimensional works made from carpet fluff and for his works featuring bananas that are first scratched with pins and then drawings appear with passage of time. Auad has participated in many international exhibitions. His work was selected for the “Adaptive Behavior” exhibition held at the New Museum of Contemporary Art (New York) in 2004, and “Beck’s Futures 2004” in ICA, London.

Long March

Long March (China)

Lu Jie – Born in 1965 in China. Lives and works in Beijing and New York.
Qiu Zhijie – Born in 1969 in Fujian Province, China. Lives and works in Beijing.
Guo Fengyi – Born in 1942 in Xian Province, China. Lives and works in Xian.
Zhao Gang – Born in 1961 in Beijing, China. Lives and works in New York.
Xu Zhen – Born in 1977 in Shanghai, China. Lives and works in Shanghai.
Hu xiangcheng – Born in 1950 in Shanghai, China.

“Long March – A Walking Visual Display” is an art project initiated by film director Lu Jie in 1999. Chinatown Project which is being exhibited in Yokohama 2005 includes works by five artists – Hu xiangcheng, Guo Fengyi, Qiu Zhijie, Zhao Gang and Xu Zhen, a workspace and an anonymous installation. The anonymous work titled Ihou kenchiku [illegal building] has been designed as the exhibition space, while a work will also be exhibited in Yokohama Chinatown. The aim of the project – through the exhibition at the venue and the work in Chinatown – is to realize an exhibition that successfully conveys the relationship between art and everyday life.
