Kohmoto Shinji

Born in Kyoto, Japan, in 1949.

Received M.Te. from the Kyoto University of Polytechnics. Has worked as curator and presently senior curator for the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, since 1981. Has curated many exhibitions, including "Contemporary Landscape: From the Horizon of Postmodern Design" (The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto and Tokyo, in 1985), "Against Nature: Japanese Art in the Eighties" (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and toured in the U.S., in 1989-91), "Images in Transition: Photographic Representations of 1980s" (The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto and Tokyo, in 1990), "PANORAMA: Architecture and Applied Arts in Hungary 1896-1916" (The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto and Tokyo, in 1995), "Liquid Crystal Futures: Contemporary Japanese Photography" (Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh, and toured in Europe, in 1994-96), "Project for Survival" (The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto and Tokyo, in 1996), and "Visions of the Body: Fashion or Invisible Corset" (The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, in 1999).



Tatehata Akira

Born in Kyoto, Japan, in 1947.

Graduated from the Faculty of Literature at Waseda University, Tokyo. Worked as a curator of the National Museum of Art, Osaka, from 1976 to 1991. Curated many exhibitions, including "Action and Emotion: Painting of the 1950s"(The National Museum of Art, Osaka, in 1985) , "Drawing as Itself" (The National Museum of Art, Osaka, in 1989), and "Private Mythology: Contemporary Art from India"(The Japan Foundation Forum, in 1998). Served as the Japanese commissioner for the 44th and 45th Venice Biennale (1990, 1993). Professor at Tama Art University in Tokyo.



Nakamura Nobuo

Born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1950.

Received M.A. from Royal College of Art, London, and started his career as an independent curator. After coming back to Japan, worked as a curator at the Kawasaki City Museum (1987 - 89), and then worked as a director of the CASK (Contemporary Art Society Kitakyushu) in 1989-95. Since 1995, as director of the Center for Contemporary Art CCA Kitakyushu, has organized many projects with artists such as Daniel Buren, Marina Abramovic, Chen Zhen, Tatsuo Miyajima, Xavier Veilhan, and John Miller, and developed research programs for international young artists. Author of many books, including Juvenile Art (1987).



Nanjo Fumio

Born in Tokyo, in 1949.

Graduated from Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Literature at Keio University. Left the Japan Foundation in 1986, became a free-lance curator. Has worked for many international art exhibitions. Served as the Japanese commissioner for the Venice Biennale in 1997, and as the commissioner for the 1998 Taipei Biennale "Site of Desire." Participates in the Sydney Biennale 2000 as the International Selection Committee Member. Also worked for public art projects such as the "Shinjuku I-Land"(1995), and the "Hakata Riverain Art Project"(1999). Author of From Art to the City (1997).
