京都市立芸術大学大学院修了、コンピューターによって画像合成された多数の制服姿のデパート・ガールが立つ巨大な写真作品で、90年代半ばから急速に注目を集める。都市空間に反復されるイメージを用い、日常生活を批評的に表現する。最近では、若い女性に自分の半世紀後の姿をイメージしてもらい、ヴィジュアル化するプロジェクト「My
Grandmothers」を制作、『流行通信』誌上に連載している。
クンストフェラインでの「プロスペクト'96」、98年の台北ビエンナーレに参加。97年、京都市美術館での「思いでのあした」参加。水戸芸術館現代美術ギャラリー｢クリテリオム｣で個展。
Born in Japan in 1967. Lives and works in Japan.
Yanagi completed the graduate course at the Kyoto
City University of Arts. She made her appearance
in the art scene with a work she made in the mid
90s. It was a very large CG composite photograph
of many women wearing department store uniforms.
Using things repeated in a city, she depicts everyday
life with a critical eye. Recently, she has been
working on a project entitled "My Grandmothers."
She asks young women to imagine what they will
be like 50 years from now and visualize their
images. The results appear as a serial in "Ryuko-Tsushin"
magazine.
International exhibitions: "Prospect 96" at the
Frankfurter Kunstverein, Taipei Biennale in 1998.
Exhibitions in Japan: "Future of Memories" at
the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art in 1997, a solo
exhibition as "CRITERIUM 31" at the Contemporary
Art Gallery, Art Tower Mito, Ibaraki in 1997.
