コンセプチュアルな彫刻や、絵画を用いて、ある状況設定を創出するインスタレーションによって、世界中で数々の展覧会に参加してきた。現代の思想家や哲学者の理論を反映し、様々な技法を縦横に使う作家として、すでにその実力は不動の評価を得ているが、横浜トリエンナーレでは、新しい表現手段としてインターネットを使った作品に挑戦したいと意欲を示しており、注目を集めることが予想される。
92年および97年のドクメンタ、97年ミュンスター彫刻プロジェクトに参加。96年、アプタイベルク州立美術館（ドイツ）で個展、97年ニューヨーク近代美術館、99年シカゴ大学ルネッサンス・ソサエティで個展開催。

West makes installations that create situations
using conceptual sculptures and paintings. Using
various techniques, he makes art that reflects
modern ideological and philosophical theories.
He has participated in various international exhibitions
and earned a solid reputation. At the "YOKOHAMA
2001," he is going to challenge new media; robot
and the Internet.
