アムステルダムの王立美術学校に学んだ後、91年頃から映像、音、写真、オブジェなど多様なメディアを用いた作品を発表。90年代半ばから、単純な動作を繰り返す人物の映像が延々と繰り返されるインスタレーション作品の制作を開始、日常の営為の中に詩的なリズムを紡ぎ出す。
95年のヴェネチア・ビエンナーレのオランダ館の代表として出品、以来、多くの国際展に参加。 2000年には、ハノーヴァー万国博覧会での「イン・ビトウィーン」展、京都国際近代美術館での「STILL＼MOVING 境界上のイメージ―現代オランダの写真、フィルム、ヴィデオ」に出品。
Born in the Netherlands in 1959. Lives and works
in the Netherlands.
Warmerdam studied art at the Amsterdam School
of the Arts. Around 1991, she began making art
in various media, for example, film, sound, photograph
and object. In the mid 90s, she began creating
loop film installations. The films, made in a
loop, show simple activities repeated over and
over again. This method turns daily activities
into poetic rhythm.
International exhibitions: Venice Biennale in
1995 representing the Netherlands, "In Between"
at the EXPO 2000 in Hanover, "Still/Moving - Contemporary
Photography, Film and Video from The Netherlands"
at the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto in
