	作者略歴 Brief record	立教大学卒業後渡米、ロサンジェルスのアート・センター・カレッジ・オブ・デザインを卒業、74年からニューヨークを拠点とする。70年代後半から、アメリカ自然史博物館のジオラマを大型カメラで精密に描写した「ジオラマ」シリーズで注目を集める。映画館をスクリーン上の光のみで長時間露光した「劇場」シリーズなど、明快なコンセプトと構成力、卓越した技術による写真作品を数々発表。89年に毎日芸術賞受賞。 Born in Japan in 1948. Lives and works in the United States. Sugimoto graduated from Rikkyo University in Tokyo and the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. He moved his base to New York in 1974. In the late '70s, Sugimoto gained recognition for the "Diorama" series, carefully crafted diorama of displays at the American Museum of Natural History. In the "Theaters" series, he took photographs of movie theaters using long exposures with the light from the screen only. Sugimoto's works are known for clear concepts, well composed images and high quality. Sugimoto received the Mainichi Art Prize in 1989.
