	作者略歴 Brief record	ＵＣＬＡ在学中から個展を行い、ホイットニー・ビエンナーレに複数回参加、その他欧米の美術館で多数の展覧会を行う。既成概念としての「彫刻」を解体、再構築し、いかにもアメリカ西海岸らしく、ばかばかしい器械を無秩序に置いたり、画廊を自分のガレージに置き換えたりといった事物散在型インスタレーションで、90年代後半を特徴づける傾向の先駆者となった。99年のヴェニス・ビエンナーレでは、デンマーク館で「スノウ・ボール」と題し、モータースポーツを主題としたピーター・ボンドとのコラボレーションを発表する一方、かつての師ポール・マッカーシーとの巨大なインスタレーションも「ダペルトゥット」展招待作品となり、話題を呼んだ。 国際展：97年、99年ヴェニス・ビエンナーレ、97年リヨン・ビエンナーレに参加。 Born in the United States in 1965. Lives and works in the United States. Rhoades presented his first solo shows while a student at UCLA. His work has been included in several Whitney Biennials and shown in numerous exhibitions at museums in the United States and Europe. He was a forerunner of the trend to construct installations with a varied array of scattered objects that was typical of the latter half of the nineties. An artist seen as a typical representative of the West Coast of the United States, he deconstructed and reworked the conventional idea of "sculpture," creating disorderly arrangements of odd and ridiculous mechanical objects, even reproducing his own garage in the gallery. He collaborated with Peter Bonde on Snowball, a multi-media project on the theme of motor sports, in the Danish pavilion at the 1999 Venice Biennale, and caused a sensation with a large installation in "dAPERTutto", produced jointly with his former teacher Paul McCarthy.
