木炭とパステルを使って描かれたドゥローイングによる、まさに「動く絵」と呼べるような手描きアニメーションの手法を用いて、ホロコーストや彼の出身である南アフリカの抱えるアパルトヘイトの問題といった政治的な重いテーマを扱いながら、詩情あふれる作品を制作。俳優、演出家、著述家といった多彩な分野でも活躍している。
国際展：97年ドクメンタ、98年サンパウロ・ビエンナーレ、99年ヴェニス・ビエンナーレ、カーネギー・インターナショナル99-00、2000年光州ビエンナーレに参加。

in South Africa.
Kentridge creates animation with handmade charcoal
and pastel drawings, producing literally "moving
pictures." These works have a poetic sensibility
but deal with serious political themes like the
Holocaust and the former apartheid policy of his
native South Africa. He has played a variety of
roles during his career, including actor, director,
and author.
