1998年、高木哲、堀口一也、古郷卓司の3人が中心メンバーとなり結成。
横浜市内の日出町でもとキャンディ工場だった場所をスタジオとしたところから、グループ名をキャンディ・ファクトリーと名づけた。インターネット上で海外各地の様々なアーティストともコラボレーションを行なっており、活動の範囲は地球規模ともいえる。
インターネットを通じて、内外のアーティストと連携を取り、共同作業を通して作品を作っている。また、ある種の構築物をつくり、それを用いてさまざまなアーティストに作品を提示する場を与えている。それらのフレームは、インターネットであろうと構築物と、美術作品を入れるフレームの意味を問い掛けている点で共通している。
横浜トリエンナーレでは、コンピュータ、インターネット上で進行していくプロジェクトとともに、車椅子や健康器具などを組み合わせ、インタラクティヴな映像プロジェクションを行なうインスタレーションを計画している。
Candy Factory was formed in 1998 by Tetsu Takagi, Kazunari Horiguchi and Takuji Kogo. The name of the group comes from the fact that they used an old candy factory in Hinode-cho, Yokohama, as their studio. Candy Factory does collaborations on the Internet with artists across the world. In this respect, their sphere of activity is worldwide. Candy Factory communicates with artists at home and abroad through the Internet and creates net artworks in collaboration with them. They also build a kind of framework on the Internet and provide them as a showcase to other artists. They question the role of conventional frameworks, like galleries and museums, for artworks. At the YOKOHAMA 2001, Candy Factory is planning a project that proceeds on the Internet and interactive image projection using wheel chairs and health care apparatus. |
